☀️ on the way to becoming mainstream
we’ve been robinhooding – the pandemic and a series of stimulus checks initially gave many americans the capability and motivation to jump into retail investing via platforms (i.e. robinhood, fidelity, coinbase, etc.)
but with the current bear market and recession, retail investors are now looking at alternative assets in hopes of making leaping returns
sentiment is changing – alternative assets are traditionally anything that are not stocks, like private equity, venture capital, real estate, etc. things that are deemed even riskier or simply harder access for those with relatively small amount of capital. but retail investors are starting to feel differently.
high rate of inflation was the top reason cited for prompting retail interest in alternative assets (62% of respondents), and higher possible returns was the second most popular reason (53%)
66% of gen z and millenials are actively investing in alternative platforms, including real estate, venture, and crypto as a “hedge to inflation” (survey by fundrise)
survey by mckinsey reveals that over 1/3 of private markets managers anticipate having a retail-oriented investment vehicle in the next 5 years, while only 9% have one today
there are so many up and comers out there, but here are a few im keeping my eyes on:
propel(x): allows individual investors to source, evaluate, and fund pioneering science and technology startups, with co-investment opportunities with well-known funds in propel(x)’s established network
3,400 members and $2b raised to date by startups on the platform
acretrader: online investment platform designed to provide access, liquidity and transparency in farmland
facilitates both large transactions and fractional ones
nftures: product launched by decentralized derivatives exchange synfutures that allows users to short nft’s
platform on which users can swipe right or left, similar to tinder
blockbar: d2c marketplace connecting consumers and collectors with the owners of luxury wine and spirits brands
recently sold out usher x remy martin 1738
sorare: fantasy sports game (soccer and mlb currently) in which users buy cards/nft’s to fill their lineup for the week and win prizes depending on the fantasy team’s weekly performance
i hope this was interesting to y’all!!
