📱iphones in movies
i’m sure a lot of our readers use iphones. according to statistics iphone users make up about:
more than a billion people worldwide
about 65% of people in the US
there’s something interesting in the film industry, however, which is that apple actually prohibits their products from being used by antagonists
🎞 guess who did it
the news came from director rian johnson a few years back in a vanity fair video for his film <knives out> (2019). he explained that villains are not allowed to be seen on screen touching an iphone. this led to an interesting incident last year:
the secret villain of the <falcon and winter soldier> (2021) show from marvel was practically spoiled because some people noticed that the character wasn’t using an iphone
this news was picked up by several news outlets including a forbes article
basically, if you watch a film and a suspicious character is using an iphone, they’re probably not the “bad guy”. apple seems to be keeping to this policy
do you think this is a smart move on apple’s part or just completely unnecessary? i’d love to know what you think
have a great weekend y’all!
