🦍 gentleminions - how memes affect the movie industry
🍌 trailer for minions - the rise of gru
pretty much anyone who has a facebook account or owns a tv knows what the minions is
illumination studios has just brought the latest installment to theaters… and created a weird trend
🤵 gentleminions
basically, theaters all over the US have been visited by (mostly) teenage boys, dressed handsomely as if they were going to prom
a majority of these teens just had a good time but some threw bananas and even damaged screens
this started off as just a ridiculous tiktok trend but has led to some people even being kicked out of theaters and having the police involved
the most significant takeaway from this movement is that according to illumination’s own numbers, viewer numbers for the teen demographic doubled since its last minions film - and i assume illumination would be quite pleased with those numbers
🎞 studios look at memes too
of course, not long ago, memes made a studio re release a film. morbius was a film that released april 1st this year that was met with terrible reviews - it currently stands at an abysmal 16% on rotten tomatoes. however, the internet memed on the film hard - saying it was a masterpiece and praising it for irony’s sake. so, sony re released the film in the hope to make more money. of course, that did not work out well for them
