#200: Ramaswamy, the new player
There is a new candidate for the GOP, Vivek Ramaswamy
He has no prior experience in politics, but is growing his influence and could very well be 2nd place to Trump in the polls
However, the question must be asked. Does he have what it takes to be president?
Like a cannonball
Last month’s Republican presidential debate, viewed by 13 million according to Fox News, saw the appearance of Vivek Ramaswamy
Founder of Roivant Sciences, Indian American entrepreneur, and political outsider
He took the debate stage with a noticeable energy, taking on the other candidates and not holding back on any front
Criticizing other candidates of being bought and paid for by donors, to name one statement he made
It’s no wonder he became the center of attention after the debate, and even addressed this by saying being attacked by other candidates was a “badge of honor”
What do the polls say?
Now, it’s been a month since the first debate; The next one is scheduled for September 27th
A poll that came out a few days ago in New Hampshire showed that Ramaswamy now came 2nd after Trump
In this poll, Trump had 39% and Ramaswamy 13%
This is a significant rise, considering how he was a practically unknown candidate before the debate
Of course, this is just one poll, but his upward trajectory is quite the exciting development in a race where Trump seems to be the only likely candidate
Does he have what it takes?
Then, can he actually pull it off?
First, considering the fact that he is very pro-Trump and nowhere near his popularity in the polls, it is most likely that he will not become the Republican candidate
However, even if he were to become president, there is a lot for him to learn
Republican candidate Nikki Haley criticized Ramaswamy, saying his lack of understanding of foreign policy showed
But more than that, his statements just seem too focused on attracting attention and not actually thought through
One example; suggesting that there was government involvement in 9/11
At the end of the day, I don’t think Ramaswamy will be the next president. But it is nice seeing a political nobody rise so strongly; purely because he knows how to use his time on the debate stage
