a train crash in india’s odisha state has resulted in a death toll of 275 and more than 1000 injured. rescue efforts continued until this morning but now the tracks have been cleared and authorities are focusing on resuming railway services to normal
🦍 the cause
india’s railway minister vaishnaw said that the cause was “due to a change in electronic interlocking” and that “who was responsible for that mistake” will be investigated. in terms of the culprit and technical issues causing the incident, we will have to wait for a govt report. however, the sheer tragedy of the event has shocked many people
🦍 public response
the general public is furious, as concerns over the safety conditions of the train system have been put into question before. as with too many cases, a major catastrophe of this magnitude is what makes actual change happen. or, at least we can hope that india will improve its transportation so something like this doesn’t happen again
