🦧 almost crossing
📚 key terms
technical analysis – it is one of the four most popular methods of investment analysis (i.e. fundamental, behavioral, quantitative, and technical)
technical analysis relies heavily on statistics and identifying patterns (and mostly short-term trading opportunities) by analyzing trends in metrics such as price movement, volume, etc.
simple moving average – one of those popular numeric indicators technical analysts love to utilize
50 m.a. – average closing price taken from the most recent 50 days
200 m.a. – average closing price taken from the most recent 200 days
just like stock prices, the 50 m.a. and 200 m.a. numbers are different each day, as the “most recent xx days” changes for every new trading day
🤞 golden cross maybe?
in technical analysis, the golden cross is when the short-term moving average (i.e. 50 day) moves or "breaks above" the long-term moving average (i.e. 200 day)
as shown in the chart above (which shows the past twelve months for the s&p 500 index), the pink (50 day m.a.) seems like it is about to inch above the purple (200 day m.a.)
chartists often look at this phenomenon as a sign of an imminent major rally or a start to a long-term bull market
⚠️ not so quick tho
of the 52 golden cross for the s&p 5000 since 1930, per dow jones market data, stocks were trading higher a year later only 71% of the time
imo: yes, we may see some relief in us equities as the fed announced on wednesday a decelerated rate hike of .25% and that its efforts to tame inflation is working, but whether this is a long term rally or not depends a bit too much on other variables that we do not yet have a good handle on (i.e. tight labor market, job freezes, layoffs, weak earnings and guidances, cooled down real estate market)
