it's mixed, not virtual
apple's been in the process of creating and distributing its own mixed reality headset "view"
kinda like like the meta quest pro (yes, it really is $1,500) but with a simpler design and potentially differentiating features
hasn’t been that easy though
per 9to5mac, there are a few key issues apple's had over the years in the process
ceo tim cook was initially not a "champion" of the mixed reality headset project
internal struggles: headset team founder and leader mike rockwell was working on the idea of a vr headset, and jony ive shut it down doubting that "consumers would want to wear headsets for any considerable amount of time"
long story short, the team's transitioned into building a mixed reality headset (instead of vr), so that users wouldn't be completely isolated from the real world
i.e. cameras to the front of the headset to see their surroundings, outward-facing screen showing eyes and facial expressions of the person wearing the headset
will apple be different?
one thing im excited about – iris scanning
users would be able to quickly log into their accountsimo: tokenization is also part of the problem
biometric id features like this (and the touch id) is something apple has massive edge over facebook
imo: a lot of us already use it on our apple devices, and apple has better infrastructure and technology to bring it to product stage
