ā protests in france
over a million people in france protested against president macronās new reforms on the nationās pension policy
the govāt is trying to raise the retirement age from the current 62 to 64
protesters chanted that they fought to retire at 60, and they will not give up that right
š¤ how bad is the situation?
the protests are happening nationwide, and the unions in charge of the protests have said they will organize additional demonstrations on feb 7 and feb 11
~ eleven thousand police have been deployed ā and they have used means such as tear gas and lathi-charge
it seems that the movement could potentially be as strong ā or even stronger than ā the yellow vest movement in 2018 (which was also against president macron)
š unavoidable
imo: many countries in the world have either gone through, or are anticipating, reforms in their pension policies. there are fewer people entering the workforce and more people who live much longer than before, itās that simple - the pension system will collapse without change
weāll have to see how the protests play out, but this might be the moment macronās legacy is decided ā as a leader who can convince the public, or become one of the most hated it has ever seen
