🇰🇵 threat of nuclear warfare at an all-time high

north korea launches short-range missiles toward south korea

north korea launched approximately 23 missiles in the direction of south korea and japan on wednesday. some noteworthy points:

• these missiles landed south of the northern limit line, a line in the sea west of the korean peninsula - this was the first time such a thing happened

• this was in response to the joint military drills the us army and south korean army held, called the vigilant storm

heightened danger of nuclear war

russian leader vladamir putin has been threatening to deploy nuclear weapons in his struggle to conquer ukraine, and this has led many to wonder if these countries might actually start a nuclear war

🫠 are we doomed?

imo: i don’t think we have to worry too much

• nuclear weapons are so destructive in their capability that launching even one would mean you could lose most of, if not all, your major cities in retaliation - robert jervis explains this well in his works

• it seems russia has reconsidered the potential use of nukes, as their foreign ministry stated as much
