netflix has a new hit show on its hands, and it’s not what you’d expect – no wednesday, stranger things or red notice, but a south korean reality tv show pitting contestants against each other in challenges that test their physicality in various ways
the games include:
hanging challenge: players hung onto a metal rack suspended over a pool of water to test who could hold on the longest
rock-lifting challenge: brutally straightforward, players held a giant boulder over their shoulders and kept it from falling to the ground. the final contestants lasted a whopping 2 hours
team boat challenge: players loaded barrels onto a boat and moved the 4,000 pound vehicle with logs – testing both strength and teamwork
🦍 squid game?
the premise alone brings to mind another korean hit, 2021’s squid game – which had physical challenges and competition that went to the extreme. however, whereas that was a nihilistic approach to harsh situations, this show has contestants cheering, helping, and respecting each other every step of the way

another reason this show is quite engaging, is that female players are put to the same standards as men – they compete in wrestling matches, endurance tests, and more on the same playing field
quite contrary to other shows (especially in asian media), women are seen in a whole new light – not as physically inferior but as fellow athletes – and another part of the fun is seeing players with different physiques challenging each other (think: gymnasts vs. bodybuilders vs. boxers, etc.)
if you have a netflix account and want to watch something refreshing, i recommend this show – surely an entertaining and eye-grabbing experience that makes you want to hit the gym
