📊 nfp stands for…

• nonfarm payrolls = number of workers, excluding farm workers and a few other categories

• the bureau of labor statistics (bls) releases nonfarm payrolls at 8:30am (est) on the first friday of every month, called the "employment situation report"

  • if you’re reading this after 8:30am, here is the result

• this report will tells us two important numbers

  • # of new nonfarm payroll jobs added in us (july)

  • unemployment rate (again, july)

• economists are expecting:

  • 250K jobs added last month

  • unemployment rate steady at 3.6%

more often than not, if the actual numbers turn out to be better or worse than economists’ consensus, that tends to move markets unless some other big thing is happens that day

if you’re looking to observe or trade right at the opening today at 9:30am, you should know the nfp stats released an hour before, going into the opening bell!
