dc has a new leadership
dc, the film studio with the rights to superman, batman and wonder woman, has changed its leadership and named james gunn and peter safran as co-chairs. as a studio with a big stake in the hollywood industry (dc is a part of warner bros) let’s see what this change means for upcoming films
who are they?
james gunn is a name you might be familiar with. he’s not a businessman but a well-acclaimed director with movies such as:
the guardians of the galaxy series (2014~2023)
the suicide squad (2021)
peter safran is a veteran produer who has worked with warner bros and james gunn in the past, so it makes sense why they were picked for the job
new direction
the problem is that they have a shxtshow of a situation to handle moving forward. clearly, dc wants a clean slate with new actors and no ties to existing continuity. they fired the current superman actor henry cavill from the role and even aquaman actor jason momoa is rumored to be playing a different character. the problem is that they already have movies filmed and set to release in 2023 such as the flash and aquaman and the lost kingdom, which are based on previous films. right now there’s just nothing we can tell
the real victim
i just feel bad for henry cavill, man. he left the lead role in the witcher series on netflix and cameoed in the recent black adam film, just to get fired a few weeks after. just goes to show that even if marvel movies can be boring at times, they have a firm hand on the direction of their franchise
