🦧 the bitcoin rich twins

👬 who are the winklevoss twins?
cameron and tyler winklevoss are identical twins (aka "winklevii") are some of the most prominent figures in the tech industry (and most recently crypto)
they first rose to fame when they sued mark zuckerberg (founder of facebook) for stealing their idea "connect-u" back in 2004 (the twins were rowers at harvard and they also did compete in the ‘08 beijing olympics) – did not go too well in the end…
fast forward to 2012, the twins founded winklevoss capital, with which they have invested in over 25 digital asset startups
it's estimated that the pair still own around 70,000 bitcoins(!)
💼 currently: gemini
together, in 2015, they cofounded gemini, one of the biggest crypto exchanges that supports 45 digital assets
ever since the ftx debacle, though, gemini stills owes its customers ~$900m worth of crypto deposits in their "earn" product (that was supposed to pay interests/yield and of course allow people to withdraw when they want to)
🧐 potential pivot?
they're not leaving gemini at all, but they maybe making a few adjustments to their original plan / business model
per bloomberg, they were seen in london last week where they met with regulators to discuss a possible send headquarters in the uk – lots of crypto executives who face extremely high-barrier regulations in the us are considering branching abroad
the twins announced on thursday that dublin would become gemini's "new european base"
