the russian invasion of ukraine is in its 16th month, with both sides taking a heavier toll than expected. it is unclear how it will come to a close, but as of now, the fighting continues
above is a video of one of the more moving moments from the war, a russian soldier being spared his life by ukrainian troops when he pleaded and surrendered. the video really makes you think of what this war is doing to the young men thrown onto the battlefield
🦍 bakhmut taken
since august of last year, russia has been trying to take bakhmut – a city in the donbas region – but failed to. on saturday, founder and leader of russian private military corporation wagner claimed it had taken control of the city. here is a video:
🦍 zelenskyy’s response
ukrainian president zelenskyy, at the g7 summit in hiroshima over the weekend, did not give details but stated that bakhmut had not been taken by russia yet. it seems that the warfare makes it unclear who has taken it, so we will have to wait for more developments
