🇺🇸 they’re your problem now

florida governor ron desantis lied to a group of 50 immigrants and sent them to martha’s vineyard

• wait, what?

the incident goes like this.

desantis, who didn’t want to provide help to immigrants who came to florida, thought it would be a good idea to send them to fancy locales in “liberal states”

the problem is, they were told that there would be houses and jobs for them, while the vineyard was not even aware of the migrants coming

what’s more, florida officials intentionally messed with their documents to make it virtually impossible to find proper help

🌳 right-wing narrative

• the view of right-wing speakers has been that democrats wouldn’t advocate for immigration if they had to deal with the immigrants themselves

• so, to prove a point, they were sent to the vineyard without notification. naturally, they did not have food or housing ready

🤝 but…

contrary to the narrative that liberals are hypocrites, basic human decency is different

• residents came out to help build beds and provide food, to the point that volunteers were sent back because there were so many

i’m not even a progressive person, but this kind of action goes against basic international law regarding human rights. conflict between republican and democrat states needs to be resolved but i’m not even sure if that’s possible at this point

sorry for ending on a dour note. i try not to get political but for topics like this i’ll just speak my mind
