• climate protesters part of a group called just stop oil sprayed tomato soup on van gogh’s painting sunflower at the national gallery in london

• the reason was to raise awareness about oil pollution

• thankfully, the painting itself was unharmed

• this seems to be part of a trend, and there have been many incidents like this

• the mona lisa was smeared with cake in the name of climate protection in may, and was unharmed

🫠 does it work?

do you think these are effective protests? there has been some discourse:

• some people say that there is an undeniable shock factor that gets the message across, and art is generally protected by bulletproof glass

• on the other hand, it doesn’t seem appropriate to deface art for an unrelated cause

guess we should go see these paintings before anyone actually destroys one of them…
