one million users in five days
that's right – chat gpt, open ai's most recent release and an internet sensation (ongoing), reached a million users in less than a week.
it took instagram two months to reach a million users, 10 months for facebook, 24 months for twitter, and 41 months for netflix
open ai’s made it free and open to anyone as of writing
what does it do?
can this be a problem at all?
this indeed is one of the most powerful, advanced technology available to the public that we’ve seen so far. it’s intriguing, exciting, and almost nerve wracking for those working in tech, because it can even code for us, very fast and well
insecurities aside, from an educational perspective, chat gpt may exponentially increase the number of students using ai to write papers or do assignments, which can turn into a generational issue of not being able to learn, understand, or execute
academics aside, ai is not going anywhere, and intellectual property laws are going to get real murky and complex real soon. imo: we will still see somebody buy up an ai generated series of images for millions of dollars, but to whom the artist proceeds will be allocated will remain unclear for quite some time
ai-induced bias (and how to regulate it), lack of morals or context, criminal applications, etc. – i mean, too many things, but this isn’t about chat gpt in particular. i think this is a generation-long homework for the ai industry
crazy times we’re in…
